Pro Pups 1
What is Pro Pups?
Pro Pups 1 is the next step in training for Furbabies puppy school graduates. The course is roughly equivalent to the clicker course, but allows for the extra knowledge and handling skills that puppy class graduates already have, while the clicker course is taylored to dogs attending class for the first time.
Why should I continue training?
- Training helps with socialising as your dog will interact with people and dogs each week in class. Socialisation will decrease if not maintained and classes provided an easy way to do this in a safe, controlled environment.
- Provides your dog with mental stimulation which contributes greatly to overall good behaviour.
- Easy progress as an experienced instructor can pick up on the little things, that you may be unaware of, that are holding you and your dog back and can also help, on a ongoing basis, to troubleshoot any problems you may have.
- Structured
ongoing training gives you a clear plan for what to do next with your
dog, and what your dog should be capable of, and will ensure the training
foundation you have laid does not deteriorate.
- Perhaps most importantly, classes provide you with a chance to spend quality time with your dog and to enjoy your dog more as they become easier and easier to handle.
What will I learn in Pro Pups?
The Pro Pups classes are designed for ongoing learning in a relaxed and enjoyable manner, training for a well-behaved companion in the home, improving and adding on to your existing dog training
skills, developing your bond, understanding and teamwork with your dog and
most of all having lots and lots of fun. The Pro Pups course lasts for six lessons of an hour each, on Sundays, in Auckland Park, Johannesburg.
In the Pro Pups 1 class we cover:
Taking your dog's obedience to the next level, including:
- Loose leash walking, all the ways to get this right
- Heelwork
- Stays, taking them to the next level by increasing time, distance and distractions
- Keeping your dog's focus around distractions
- Gettting over being stuck on luring. Making responding to hand signals even more rewarding for your dog than luring with food in your hand
- Getting a super fast and reliable recall.
Clicker work:
- Introduction to the clicker, why its such a great training tool and how to use the clicker to teach your dog just about anything.
- How to be an 'armchair dog trainer' using clicker.
Fun stuff:
- While owners are usually really good at giving their dogs physical excercise, one aspect of dog care that is often overlooked is a dog's need for mental excercise and how much this contributes to a calm, happy and well-behaved dog. The fun stuff fulfils this need, while also leading to improved performance in obedience.
- Dogs will be taught to target, jump through a hoop, use their noses to find treats and more.
